Playa Bowls is preparing to grow its presence in the greater Charlotte market after multi-unit operator Coleen Jeter and her cousin, Robin Richards, signed a multi-unit franchise agreement to develop locations throughout the region. According to Chain Store Age, the first restaurant planned under the agreement will be in Tega Cay, South Carolina, part of the Charlotte metropolitan area.
An exact site has not yet been announced. WhatNow Charlotte reached out to franchise co-owner Coleen Jeter to confirm the exact location and anticipated opening date for the Tega Cay restaurant, but did not receive a response before publication.
“These agreements reflect the strong interest we’re seeing from operators who are looking for a brand with broad consumer appeal and long-term growth potential,” Jayson Tipp, Playa Bowls’ Chief Development Officer, said in a statement. “As we continue to grow, our focus remains on disciplined development and building the right partnerships.”
The announcement follows another year of rapid expansion for the New Jersey-based brand. According to Chain Store Age, Playa Bowls opened 85 new locations in 2025, bringing its footprint to nearly 400 shops across 30 states. The company has also recently highlighted new restaurant openings, franchise milestones and community events across its social media channels as it continues expanding nationwide.
Founded in 2014, Playa Bowls offers more than 40 menu items, including customizable acai, pitaya, coconut and green bowls, as well as smoothies, juices, oatmeal bowls and cold brew coffee.
