Family-run business The Social Cow is ready to make the leap from ice cream trucks to brick-and-mortar. It will be opening a scoop shop at The Market at 7th Street in March, owner Siobhan Reddick shared with What Now Charlotte.

The Social Cow received a six-month residency at The Market after Reddick completed the Hub for Inclusivity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HIVE) program, which provides resources for local small businesses to grow.

“I applied for the residency because we knew we were at a point where we wanted it to grow,” Reddick said. “We wanted to grow and expand into a traditional scoop shop.”

Since its inception, The Social Cow has catered to private events, offering ice cream truck experiences with their truck, Maebel. Reddick said she wants to keep the brand consistent at their spot in The Market — meaning fun, eye-catching designs, alongside 12 flavors of ice cream and special touches like waffle cones in the shape of The Social Cow logo.

“The Social Cow was built as an experience,” Reddick said. “We have thought a lot about how we can bring the experience to the 7th Street Market.”

Looking beyond the residency, Reddick said they hope to expand the business further, focusing on small footprints like trucks or kiosks like their space at The Market. She said they eventually would like to expand beyond Charlotte.

“We really hope that if things go well at the residency that we can stay at the Market at 7th Street because the community and diversity that comes into the market is something that is important to us and aligns with our brand,” Reddick said.
