Publix is set to serve as the grocery anchor for a mixed-use development taking shape near Interstate 485 at Idlewild and Stallings roads, Meet CLT reports. The store will be joined by more than 40,000 square feet of neighboring retail and restaurant space, a 6,000-square-foot wellness center, walking paths, and open spaces.

The development, Cadia Village Matthews from Pappas Properties, is also planned to include 570 homes, consisting of 445 rental residences and 125 for-sale homes from David Weekley Homes. It will be an 82-acre project in total; construction on the retail portion is now underway,

Publix will be the centerpiece of the commercial portion, bringing grocery shopping into the planned community. The supermarket is expected to include a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru and create approximately 150 jobs.

The project reflects Publix’s continued presence in North Carolina. The grocery chain’s page lists more than 60 stores in the state, following Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina in total store count for the southeastern market.
