Ottawa’s popular hybrid restaurant Burgers and Sushi House (BASH) is opening a new location in Geneva, located at 124 State St.

The long wait is almost over for co-owners Cody and Chanel Renkosik, who have been working on this location for years. The duo is now getting ready to move into the former home of Bicycle Heaven and H4 Fitness sometime in Summer 2022. Back in 2020, a Geneva alderman voted 5-3 to approve an economic development incentive for the building, following warnings from the owners to kill the 350-seat restaurant. The original Burger and Sushi House opened at 1012 North LaSalle Street in 2013.

“I respect [the] due process,” Chanel Renkosik tells Shaw Local in 2020 following Alderman’s approval. “I do want to stress that this has been over a year-long process for us … and the closing of this building was pending financing of which this incentive is a major, major part of. With COVID pushing things back, waiting another month for us is potentially a deal-breaker.”

The 14,820 square-foot lot with 14,000 square feet of commercial and warehouse space has since been gutted after being on the market since 2018. When the new Burger and Sushi House opens this summer, guests can expect a staff that ranges from familiar faces to a team of sushi chefs with experience from across the world. As for food, there will be plenty to choose from, with a focus obviously on burgers and sushi.
