One of Chicago’s oldest pizza restaurants is about to get a lot bigger.

Connie’s Pizza has been a Chicago icon since 1963. Founded by entrepreneur Jim Stolfe as a small pizza-joint on Chicago’s south side, the restaurant’s humble beginnings have since evolved into one of Chicago’s most beloved pizza restaurants. Still following the same family recipe that put the joint on the map in 1963, Connie’s has spent decades of its operation defining how exactly Chicago does pizza.

Today, the popular pizza place is still in operation at 2373 South Archer Ave. The operation is currently helmed by Jim’s son, Michael Stolfe, who grew up in Connie’s and has been working there for as long as he can remember. The restaurant seems to be more popular than ever, and if they’ve encountered any problems so far, it appears that the biggest problem they face is being too popular. While it’s not a bad problem to have, Michael and his team appear to be ready to rectify that problem once and for all.

Connie’s Pizza was recently issued a permit to add a brand new outdoor patio as well as new restrooms, indicating that the restaurant is gearing up for a serious expansion. The outdoor patio will be a welcome addition for diners, who will finally be able to enjoy the upcoming summer weather eating their favorite pizza in the city. While the project may take some time to complete, Connie’s thankfully remains operational.
