A family run coffee shop is getting a new physical space in Brighton Park soon.

The owners of Tawney Coffee have been taking to social media to announce they will be opening a larger space at 3055 W Pope John Paul II Drive. The business started out as a mobile coffee car and is soon to be a shop for the community. As of now, money is still being raised for the project.

“Tawney Coffee is more than just coffee. It’s family, youth, culture and connection,” says the description on the Gofundme page. On the page, it also states remodeling inside the space still needs to be done. Over $1,000 has been raised for the shop.

The owner is Darla Torres who is running the business alongside her younger brother. Their family has been operating Tawney at 4220 S Richmond Street, a smaller location also in Brighton Park, where hot and cold brews, as well as pastries were sold. The business also sells coffee beans and grounds online ranging from $13-35.

On their social media, the owners have been promoting the fundraiser, with the message “Help us build Tawney Coffee’s first home.” The family had also been operating Macramentadas, a jewelry store in Brighton Park. The new location will be just down the street from the previous Tawney Coffee spot.
