The sudden loss of Café Marie-Jeanne, the European-style café that closed last November, is not to be mourned for long, as a new restaurant group, Orbit Group Hospitality, will open an Italian eatery in the same location. Segnatore (now hiring for front and back of house staff) will bring a neighborhood restaurant experience to Humboldt Park inspired by “the hidden history of folk healers in Italy.”
Midwest ingredients will meet Italian cooking when the restaurant space reopens under the direction of Matt Troost and his other partners. Block Club Chicago reports the restaurant group officially signed the lease for the old Marie-Jeanne space this spring.
The Segnatori, from which the eatery borrows its name, were Italian folk healers. “The menu draws influence from the traditions of Italian cuisine with use of Midwest ingredients and hospitality – spotlighting classic Italian dishes, like house-made pastas with contemporary twists, and a rotating list of seasonal offerings. All made to share with good company,” shares an advertisement for back of house cook positions.
At the same time that they tackle the Italian eatery, Orbit Group is working to re-open The California Clipper Lounge, which also closed down last year. Both restaurants will reportedly open this fall.
