Sheila Morrison has seen success with her restaurant on W 79th, and will be adding another location in a thriving neighborhood
Morrison recently took to social media to announce her second location called Morrison Food Express will be opening at 733 E 47th Street in Bronzeville. Along with the Southern food served, a vegan menu and dessert bar are also planned. The projected date of opening is April 18 next year.
The current restaurant at 148 W 79th Street is advertised as “The best authentic Southern cooking in Chicago.” Baked chicken with dressing, short ribs, smothered chopped steak and Cajun chicken are just a few of the dishes offered, with the menu changing day to day. Morrison said the menu will be similar with distinct differences like the vegan menu which has not been released.
“The food was delicious, hot and fresh and the plates were heavy,” said one Google reviewer.
Along with the express concept, the dessert bar will be inside, serving taffy apples, cupcakes and other treats on display. Morrison said the inspiration for the dessert bar came from her daughter who loves sweet treats. At the current location, ice cream and milkshakes are already served.
When choosing the new spot, Morrison wanted a spot that was thriving and needed soul food in the community. It is going in at the corner of E 47th Street and S Evans Avenue, just a few blocks from many of the neighborhood bars and restaurants.
“I just knew we would be perfect for Bronzeville,” Morrison said.
