Sunda New Asian, the award-winning restaurant concept featuring elevated Southeast Asian cuisine, is making its way to Fulton Market, located at 333 N. Green St.
The company, which currently has locations in Nashville and Chicago at 110 W. Illinois, recently posted looking for employees for a new location. The opening date of this new location is unknown, but guests can expect the second Chicago location to open sometime in Summer 2022. Owner Billy Dec hopes the location will tap into new trends and a different customer base. On top of that, this new Fulton Market District location is the first step of a significant national expansion of the brand.
The design of the new Sunda location will be different than the original River North spot, reflecting changes in consumer tastes, Dec said last year at the initial announcement. In terms of the menu, the new location will feature some of the River North location’s signature items but will add new items not seen at the original location. Dec has already signed a lease in Tampa, Fla., while also looking at cities such as Dallas, Houston, Denver, Atlanta, and Scottsdale.
“Inspired by a lifetime of culinary and culturally immersed travel throughout Southeast Asia, our owners developed the Sunda concept to celebrate the beautiful fusion of intermingling cultures found on the Sunda Shelf, a landmass, today submerged under shallow seas, that was once surrounded by the many different countries and cultures we celebrate at Sunda today like Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, China and more,” according to the company’s website.
