According to a recent permit filing, Poppets Coffee will soon open a roastery and tasting room at 1403 Business Center Ct in Dayton. The coffee and tea company currently has a retail shop at 600 E 2nd St. The business got its start in the Dayton area selling bags of coffee and tea online and at area farmers markets in 2021.

The retail store, located inside 2nd Street Market, will remain open and the focus of the second location will be on roasting, as well as hosting coffee education and tasting events, according to Poppets Coffee co-owner, Michael Thomas.

“Coffee is unique in its own right, in how, similar to wine, the flavors can change based on the region where it’s grown and how it’s roasted,” Thomas said. “We want the tasting events to educate people on how beans change from light to dark during roasting, but we want to make it fun and educational.”

In addition to the public education and tasting events, Thomas said he also hopes to connect with area restaurant owners and offer an opportunity to taste the different beans available through cupping events at the roastery. Along with space for roasting coffee beans, the location will also have room for production for their full line of loose leaf teas and coffees.

According to Thomas, the current timeline for opening is late October, but may be subject to change depending on a number of factors.
