As detailed in a recent article, Ciao Cafe will open a second location at 214 Thurman Ave, in German Village. The business is owned Tani Berberi and his wife Eva, who are originally from Albania, but spent just over a decade living in Italy, where Eva worked in gelaterias and learned the process of making gelato.
The couple moved to the states in 2012 and started their own business shortly after arriving in America. With Eva’s experience in the business, combined with their time spent living in Italy, serving gelato, Italian sandwiches and desserts, seemed like a natural choice. Ciao Cafe currently has one location in Delaware, and Berberi said customers have long asked for a second location of the popular concept, but it wasn’t something he’d seriously considered, that is, until the right opportunity presented itself.
“I wasn’t looking to open another location, but saw the opportunity and thought why not,” Berberi said of the forthcoming space.
The German Village menu options will include a selection of Italian sandwiches like paninis, desserts such as tiramisu and cannoli, as well as cappuccino and other espresso beverages and gelato. The made in-house flavors range from fruit-based gelatos and traditional offerings like tiramisu and stracciatella, to rotating, seasonal flavors.
Currently, the cafe is looking to open by the end of January or early February.
Service hours aren’t finalized just yet, but the establishment will likely operate from mid-morning through the evening, perfect for customers looking for a quick sandwich or a post-dinner dessert option.
