According to a recent permit filing, a new restaurant called Kenny’s Bottom to the Top Diner is opening in the Hilltop neighborhood at 1959 Sullivant Ave. The permit details work that will be done to remodel the first floor of an existing commercial building for use as a restaurant.
What Now Columbus spoke with Kenny’s Bottom to the Top Diner owner, Kenny Koon, who shared the inspiration behind the diner’s concept. According to Koon, the diner will fill a need, since it’s located in an area of Hilltop that doesn’t have any dining options.
Koon, who also owns K Dawg’s Big Nickel Tavern at nearby 2490 Sullivant Ave, said the restaurant will go into the main floor of what was a five unit apartment building. When construction is complete, two apartments will remain on the second floor and the diner will operate out of building’s first floor.
Koon said he doesn’t have a timeline for opening Kenny’s Bottom to the Top Diner just yet, but when it does open it will serve typical diner style breakfast, brunch and lunch offerings. The diner will not only fill a need in the Hilltop neighborhood, but also fulfill one of Koon’s lifelong dreams.
“I’ve lived in this neighborhood my whole life and I’ve always wanted to start a diner,” Koon said.
