Another Popeyes restaurant is headed to the Columbus area, according to a recent permit filing with the city. Popeyes is slated to open in north Columbus at 3390 Cleveland Ave, at a site that once held a Burger King. According to details in the permit, the existing Burger King building will be demolished in order to make way for the construction of a new Popeyes. There will also be lot improvements that include two drive thru lanes and minor parking lot modifications, with the work projected to cost $1.5 million, according to the permit filing.
Popeyes formed in New Orleans in 1972 and is known for serving fried chicken, seafood, biscuits and Louisiana inspired sides, like mashed potatoes with cajun gravy and red beans and rice. Currently, there are 3,000 Popeyes restaurants in North America and nearly 30 located in Ohio.
The eatery is being brought to Cleveland Avenue by The Gilligan Company, an Ohio based company that serves as a franchisor for Subway, Popeyes and Dunkin’ Donuts in addition to operating several convenience store chains.
