Seek-No-Further Cidery is expanding its downtown Granville operation into the morning hours with a new cafe that will bring coffee, food and additional gathering space to the community.
Located at 126 E. Elm St., the cidery is preparing to open Seek-No-Further Cidery and Cafe, with the owners tentatively targeting a mid- to late September opening. However, an exact opening date has not yet been set.
Co-owners Trent Beers and Garrett Huber said the idea grew from wanting to make better use of the space during the day. The business is currently primarily an evening destination, and moving some of its cider production off-site created room for the new cafe.
“We found ourselves closed for a good … six hours a day,” the owners said during an interview with WhatNow Columbus, explaining that they wanted to extend the community-oriented atmosphere they had created in the evenings into the morning.
The cafe will operate as part of the existing business rather than as a separate company or standalone brand. It will be known as Seek-No-Further Cidery and Cafe.
The owners see the cafe as an opportunity to provide a walkable coffee and gathering option in downtown Granville, particularly for people looking for somewhere to work, meet or spend time outside their homes.
The existing property includes an upstairs loft that can accommodate up to about 50 people, along with outdoor patio space. The owners said the space is well suited to becoming a daytime gathering spot because it already functions as a community destination in the evenings.
The cafe is expected to open at around 7 a.m., although operating hours are still being finalised. The owners hope to attract morning commuters as well as customers looking for a place to work, meet friends or gather with colleagues.
The transition from the evening cidery to the daytime cafe is expected to be relatively seamless. Seek-No-Further already hosts community groups and clubs, including running clubs, and the owners hope to extend that use into the morning.
To accommodate daytime customers, the business is adding more tables to the upstairs loft and installing additional power outlets. The downstairs area is also being reconfigured to improve ordering and customer traffic. The existing outdoor space will remain unchanged.
A key part of the new cafe will be its partnership with Deeper Roots Coffee, a Cincinnati-based coffee roaster.
The owners chose Deeper Roots because of its reputation in the coffee industry. Huber also has a personal connection with the company, having lived in Cincinnati about a decade ago and completed training courses with Deeper Roots.
The coffee program will extend beyond traditional drip coffee and espresso. Customers can expect matcha, teas, speciality iced drinks, baked goods and hot cider, along with additional small food offerings.
The cafe’s food menu is expected to include items such as salads, hummus and feta bread, providing a larger food selection than the cidery currently offers.
The new cafe will also incorporate flavours that connect it to Seek-No-Further’s cider-making roots.
The owners plan to experiment with apple-inspired speciality drinks, including apple flavours paired with spices. Maple syrup is also expected to feature prominently in some beverages.
Seek-No-Further sources its maple syrup locally from maple producers in the Utica, Ohio, area, and the owners said they are looking forward to incorporating the ingredient into the cafe’s offerings.
The cafe’s food offerings will remain separate from the cidery’s existing menu. While the cidery currently offers snacks, the cafe will provide an expanded food selection during the daytime.
For Beers and Huber, the cafe is not intended to replace the identity of Seek-No-Further as a cidery. Instead, it is an extension of the existing business and its role as a gathering place.
The owners said they are particularly excited about giving customers more ways to enjoy the space, whether they are stopping in for coffee, meeting friends or coworkers, or using it as a workspace.
They also want the quality of the coffee to be a major part of the experience, saying they have invested in their own water system and other measures to produce what they describe as a top-quality cup of coffee.
The cafe is planned as a permanent extension of the Seek-No-Further brand, although the owners said they are not currently planning to add additional concepts beyond the coffee-focused expansion.
Seek-No-Further Cidery opened in downtown Granville in 2021 and is owned by Trent Beers and Garrett Huber.
