A popular Mexican chain is preparing to infuse some fresh life into the McKinney’s Taco Tuesdays. Barrio Tacos is opening a new location in the neighborhood next year.

The establishment, which invites customers to build their own tacos, will be opening at 9401 West University Drive, Suite 150. According to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction on the 3,014 square foot restaurant is set to begin on January 29, 2025 and to conclude by June 24 of next year.

Barrio Tacos opened its first location in Ohio in 2012. The chain has spread to include 22 locations nationally.

The eatery’s cuisine has earned it considerable acclaim; Barrio has been voted one of the top 10 taco stands in the United States. The chain’s expertise is not limited to the titular dish, however. Barrio is also celebrated for its bar selections, particularly tequilas, beers, and whiskeys.

Future McKinney regulars can look forward to a fun and delicious dining experience. The Barrio website describes its objective as: “To push creative boundaries using fresh, innovative recipes in everything we do. Barrio strives to continue to provide a high-energy, inclusive atmosphere in every neighborhood we serve.”
