Chubby’s Tacos & Dive Bar is set to launch inside a Dallas Walmart in early 2024, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Located at 1521 N Cockrell Hill Road, the new lobby location will be the part of a large wave of expansion for the chain of fast-but-fresh Mexican food.
“Chubby’s Tacos is so genuinely excited to bring its super flavorful Mexican street food, margaritas and frozen drinks to the world of Walmart in the Dallas Fort Worth area,” CEO, Rudy Theale, told What Now Dallas. “Guests will enjoy our 8 fresh made salsas, free chips, and amazing protein options such as al pastor, chicken tinga, carnitas, and of course our fresh grilled carne asada! Our team is ready and focused on bringing the fiesta to Dallas Forth Worth and has enjoyed working with the local Walmart team to make this a reality.”
The restaurant’s website tells the charming story of its Oaxaca origins, started by a boy named Gordon who had a few pesos and a passion for tacos. Gordon was nicknamed “Gordito” by his mother, which translates to “chubby” in English – thus, Chubby’s Tacos was later born.
With two current locations in North Carolina, the restaurant will soon be expanding it’s menu of tacos, burritos, bowls, tortas and more into Texas – all topped with salsas made fresh, in-store daily.
