A chain specializing in Hawaiian cuisine appears to be cooking up another location in Texas.

Mo’Bettahs is planned for a space in Hurst at 1858 Precinct Line Road, according to plans filed with the state. The space was formerly occupied by Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. The estimated start date on the work is January 2025, with an estimated completion date at the end of April 2025.

This would be the ninth Texas location of Mo’Bettahs, which can currently be found in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Forney, Mansfield and Sachse.

The menu includes rice and macaroni salad with a choice of meat, like teriyaki steak, teriyaki chicken, katsu chicken, shrimp tempura and kalua pig.

Brothers Kimo and Kalani Mack, who were born on the island of Oʻahu, started the concept in 2008 as Mo’Bettah Steaks as a way to share the flavors of Hawaiian cuisine and “to recreate the feel of family gatherings on the island.” They began in Bountiful, Utah, before opening a second location in 2009 in Salt Lake City. Mo’Bettahs has now grown to about 50 locations, all company-owned.

Savory Fund acquired Mo’Bettahs in 2018, allowing the brand to grow without franchising. It was announced in October 2024 that Dallas-based private equity firm Trive Capital and Washington, D.C.-based private investment firm Blue Marlin Partners partnered to acquire a majority stake in Mo’Bettahs, with Savory Fund and the Mack brothers expected to retain minority stakes in the company.
