The Dallas ice cream scene is heating up later this year, with the arrival of a heavy-hitting newcomer. Despite being on the scene since 2011, Salt & Straw has not yet entered the Texas market-a reality that is about to change, thanks to the arrival of a new scoop shop in Dallas, news certain to make everyone scream for ice cream, reports Culture Map Dallas.

Salt & Straw is making its Lonestar State debut at 2323 N. Henderson Avenue, #107. While a specific opening date is not yet available, ownership anticipates the ice creamery being customer-ready at some point this spring.

Salt & Straw is the passion project of cousins Tyler and Kim Malek. The duo launched the concept in Portland in 2011, and while there are plenty of solid ice cream options in the dining world, this one stands out thanks to both its philanthropy and the extreme care it dedicates to its centerpiece dish.

Salt & Straw makes delicious ice cream that it transforms into unexpected and innovative flavor creations. The website explains: “Crafted with unthinkable care, our team cooks, freezes, candies, smashes, drizzles, ribbons, spoons, and sprinkles, creating flavor profiles that awaken taste buds. Using ice cream as a blank slate for storytelling, we fearlessly explore ingredients, discover emerging artisans, and share inspiring, unifying experiences.”

While this eloquent explanation may seem a tad nebulous, the menu speaks for itself. Guests can savor options including honey lavender, pear and bleu cheese, strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper, and chocolate toasted buttermilk torte, among other unique creations.

It is, in fact, the brand’s creativity that makes it and the DFW such a dynamic pairing. Kim Malek explains that the region’s passion for quality cuisine is what drew in Salt & Straw, saying: “We’ve spent meaningful time in Texas and have been inspired by the depth and momentum of its food and creative communities. Dallas and Fort Worth, in particular, stood out as places where craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and hospitality intersect in a really genuine way, making them natural homes for Salt & Straw’s first shops in the state.”
