A new walk-up and drive-thru restaurant concept focused on baked potatoes will open in Desoto sometime this winter. The Tater Shack owner Veronique Skinner told What Now Dallas that they hope to break ground at 1018 E. Pleasant Run Rd. in Desoto in the next few weeks.
The nearly 500-square-foot space will be built from the ground up. It will be walk-up and drive-thru only but may have a small patio with one or two tables for seating. It could open to the public by the end of December or early January 2023.
“It’s the new experience of enjoying a baked potato that gives you the fullness of having your meat and potato and vegetables all in one plate, except you’re going to have it all on that one baked potato,” Skinner said. “The baked potato has been around for a long time, so I think now it needs to stand out just like the hamburger.”
At The Tater Shack, the customer can choose a type of meat from turkey and chicken to shrimp, steak, and more. They can then add vegetables such as broccoli, tomatoes, onions, olives, and cauliflower, then dressings. Macaroni and cheese will also be a topping choice, and specialty potatoes will include hamburger, barbecue, and taco. “Our baked potatoes are going to be very filling.”
This will be the first location for The Tater Shack and will bring jobs to Desoto. “I’m really excited. I’m excited about the building,” Skinner said. “We’re really looking forward to it. It’s going to be something new and exciting.” Skinner plans to open The Tater Shack in other areas, as well.
Skinner has been in the restaurant industry for more than 20 years. Her father, James May, is a franchise owner with Williams Chicken. “He’s been in business for almost three decades, so I’ve learned from him. It’s exciting to pass the torch,” Skinner said.
