The McGrath family started Runnin’ of the Green in 1988. Terry and Margot McGrath, who were runners themselves, laid the foundation for the jog event. They brainstormed and finalized it as a charity race celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and Spring.
During that time, Denver’s LoDo area-based marathon was the first longest-running event. This event also upheld the idea of being ‘green’ and giving back to society.
In 1988, the first Runnin’ of the Green event was organized at Denver’s City Park and continued there until 2021. After that, Washington Park became the new venue, where the fun stayed afresh.
Started in 1988, the jog event of Runnin’ Of the Green offers two categories of the race:
- Lucky 7K Run/Walk
- Leprechaun Leap 2 Mile Run/Walk
