Pizza Alley, a West Highland pizzeria that’s been closed since December 2023, is on track to finally reopen this summer, Denver Post reports. After issues with the previous owner, a local restaurateur is taking over the establishment, located at 3499 W. 32nd Ave.
Khagendra Gurung is now in charge of the concept after taking it over officially last spring. He has been busy renovating the space ever since. Gurung also owns the neighboring Himchuli Indian and Nepali restaurant, as well as Mazevo Mediterranean Eatery on Tennyson and Cuisine of Himalayas in Evergreen.
Its prior owner, Paul Sargeant LLC, bought the business in 2021. Under his ownership, the business faced serious financial and legal trouble, including over $42,000 in back taxes and a lawsuit from Shamrock Foods for $46,000 in unpaid bills, according to Colorado Community Media.
The pizza shop originally opened in 1976. As a longtime staple in town, the community rallied around the idea of someone bringing it back. Last year, some employees were even toying with the idea of buying it, as seen in a short-lived GoFundMe. Reports say Gurung will have the same staff in place as before.
