South of Park Hill/ Mayfair is getting a new Italian-inspired neighborhood restaurant on 4839 E Colfax Ave this spring. Benzina, which means “gasoline” in Italian, is set in an old gas station.

This gas station turned neighborhood restaurant is going to be heating up their specially-made Mibrasa brand charcoal ovens to serve their customers Neapolitan-style pizzas. This style of pizza, known to have originated in the city of Naples in Italy, is cooked at a very high temperature for not more than 90 seconds, which is why special ovens are needed.

The menu, which will also include homemade pastas, seasonal specials and a selection of dessert, is overseen by consulting chef Brian Lockwood, who has worked with the two arguably most famous fine dining restaurants in the U.S., The French Laundry and Eleven Madison Park.

We’re definitely ready to park ourselves in this old gas station to dig into some fresh pastas and pizzas this spring.
