Peter Kazura has stepped up to assume the iconic Bucksnort Saloon in Sphinx Park, according to Westword. The popular watering hole, located at 15921 S Elk Creek Rd., had an uncertain fate, but now it’s been saved.

The Bucksnort Saloon property has been around for over 100 years, first as a mercantile for railroad workers. Kazura will be restoring some of the building, including septic issues and county violations.

He took ownership of the business on Thanksgiving, acquiring it from Lj and Kathy Weller, and announced the news in mid-December. Electrical plans and permits for floodplain, electrical, and structural changes have been submitted recently.

Kazura will be adding colorful murals, an outdoor stage, and a revived store called BuckStop. He hopes to be open by the spring or summer “if all goes well.”
