Sunnyside ramen spot Ramen Star is changing hands, first reported by Westword. Fortunately for Ramen Star regulars, another ramen place, Ebisu Sushi and Ramen Star, is opening in the space on 4044 Tejon St.

Ramen Star opened in 2019, serving a mix of traditional and creative ramens from chef and owner Takashi Tamai, like its chocolate ramen. Tamai, a Japanese immigrant, decided to sell his restaurant to return back to Japan. Tamai and the Chois completed the sale on Feb. 23.

The upcoming Ebisu is owned by husband-and-wife co-owners Myong and Chef Soon Choi. You may recognize Ebisu from their outpost at the Junction Food & Drink, where they have operated since 2020.

Myong Choi tells Westword that the upcoming restaurant will serve a new menu of ramen and sushi, the larger space letting the Chois spread their wings. She hopes to eventually expand the menu with curry and gyoza. However, the Chois have decided to invite Ramen Star staff to stay with the new, rebranded restaurant.

Ebisu will reopen on March 20.
