Starbird, a California-based fast-food chain specializing in high-quality crispy chicken, has made a significant step in its expansion goals for Colorado. The franchisee for the market has officially locked down the first of numerous locations it will open in the state, announced by KYGO as 965 S. Colorado Blvd.
The store is reportedly set to open by mid-2025. It’s the first of seven that franchisee Daniel Wagner, CEO of Whiplash Holdings, signed up to open in the state. What Now Denver covered the franchise agreement last year, prior to when he locked down this location.
“Our first location on Colorado Boulevard is truly prime real estate, and we feel incredibly fortunate to introduce Starbird to Denver in such a vibrant part of the city. After experiencing the food for ourselves, we quickly realized what the market had been missing—fresh, high-quality ingredients, bold flavors, and a modern take on crispy chicken. We’re confident Starbird will resonate with Denverites, and we’re already exploring additional sites in family-friendly, high-density neighborhoods where we know this brand will thrive,” Wagner told the publication.
This is the brand’s first venture into franchising. Starbird’s website explains that its franchising program is being developed in two phases. Currently in Phase 1, opportunities are also available in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Florida.
Founded in 2016 in the Bay Area, Starbird is known as a healthier option for fast-casual food. The brand uses antibiotic- and hormone-free chicken, and offers a variety of items, such as sandwiches, tenders, wraps, and salads, as well as plant-based alternatives like a Vegan Chicken Sandwich.
