Guffey’s landmark Freshwater Saloon is set for a major revival under new ownership, according to the Daily Record. The mountain town’s historic watering hole, located at 52 S 8th St., has been acquired by Bill and Tavish Yackanicz, and the couple is planning to refurbish and reopen it.
The 3,000-square-foot building has served the area in multiple roles over the years – including a general store, feed store, bar, and restaurant. In 2023, the Freshwater was forced to close after earlier operators faced structural and code issues and a legal battle with the county, The Flume writes.
Bill and Tavish, who also own Rustic Timber and Deck, are restoring the building while preserving its historic character. Changes include a new roof, updated flooring, and various cosmetic improvements. They have also salvaged pieces of the recently demolished Mr. Ed’s restaurant in Cañon City and will use them onsite.
What Now Denver did not receive responses from the Yackaniczes in time for publication.
