Per BusinessDen, the California-founded In-N-Out burger continues to pursue construction of a new location at Tower and 56th Avenue in Denver. Development plans with the city began with a concept plan proposed last summer for a 3,860-square-foot restaurant. While there is no definitive opening date, this would mark the second Denver location and eighth in Colorado overall (per ScrapeHero data).

According to its history, the massive fast casual giant began even before McDonald’s with Harry and Esther Snyder setting up the Golden State’s first drive-thru hamburger restaurant in 1948. Every day, Harry shopped for fresh produce and meat, which he would form patties from by hand, selling from a 10 square-foot burger stand at Francisquito and Garvey in Baldwin Park in the central San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County. Meanwhile, Esther took care of the books at the couple’s nearby home. To smooth out the process of ordering food, Harry also introduced a two-way speaker box that allowed customers to order right from their cars.

It would be 15 years before In-N-Out Burger replaced hand-pressed patties with its own manufacturing plant to premake ground chuck in grillable discs. And it wouldn’t be until 1979 when In-N-Out would add a dining room to its design. This and the passing of Harry in 1976 marked the end of the eatery’s humble beginnings for a new time of expansive growth. Son Rich Snyder would grow In-N-Out to 93 locations by the time of his passing in 1993.

The 1.64-acre site in east Denver would mark at least 388 restaurants across California, Colorado, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The first Denver In-N-Out at 4597 Central Park Blvd. is expected to open for business in the next few weeks.
