A shakeup is happening in the local ice cream industry, as one dessert shop closed and another is poised to take over. Denver Business Journal reports that Inside Scoop Creamery (at 1535 Platte Street) has shuttered and will be replaced by Van Leeuwen Ice Cream.

After more than a decade of serving the community, Inside Scoop was forced to close the location.  A new landlord, Asana Partners, bought the property in 2023, then subsequently raised rent by $18,000 more annually and took away employee parking. The corporation then declined to renew its lease.

Van Leeuwen is a New York-based ice cream chain that was founded in 2008. It has since grown to more than 70 locations around the country. Biz West reports the company made its Colorado debut in 2022, opening a Boulder store, and has since also opened one in Larimer Square.

While no opening date has been announced, the location is listed as “coming soon” on the brand’s website. Hiring ads have also been recently posted for the location, indicating the business is prepping for operation.
