Denver restaurateur Suraj Aryal is working on the third location of his family-run Indian and Nepali eatery Spice Kitchen. The business will be moving into the former Sunnyside Supper Club space at 2915 W. 44th Ave., Denver Post reports.
Aryal closed on the 5,700-square-foot property recently for $2 million — a steep discount from its original $2.8 million listing price. A sign is up on the building stating the restaurant is “coming soon,” and the rumor is it will welcome guests at some point this summer.
The property had been tied up in foreclosure after previous owners Brendan McManus and James Samara of Mighty Hospitality Group — operators of Lucky Pie Pizza and El Jefe — failed to pay off a $2.55 million loan.
Mighty Hospitality Shuttered the Sunnyside Supper Club suddenly last fall. Maintenance issues forced a shutdown in October, and the business never recovered, social media posts show.
Spice Kitchen began seven years ago. Aryal’s inspiration for the cuisine is his father, a chef with four decades of experience cooking in Nepal, India, Japan, and Hong Kong. The thriving Thornton and Parker locations of Spice Kitchen each generate more than $1 million annually.
