A new chapter is underway for the team behind two of the locations of acclaimed Mexican eatery La Loma. According to the Denver Post, the restaurants in Castle Rock (6361 Promenade Parkway) and Downtown Denver (1801 Broadway) have been rebranded and renamed to Savina’s Mexican Kitchen.

The change comes as a result of internal restructuring of the chain after the split of owners William and Renee Brinkerhoff. He retained ownership of the Castle Rock and downtown restaurants with their son Mark through Brinkerhoff Hospitality; she took over operation of the others with their son William Jr. Those will continue to operate with the La Loma name.

Inspiration for the new name comes from the founder of La Loma, the family matriarch, Savina “Grandma” Mendoza. Savina’s Mexican Kitchen honors her legacy, with its menu featuring dishes such as mini chile rellenos, flautas, enchiladas, and mesquite-grilled entrees, along with an extensive selection of margaritas, craft cocktails, and premium tequilas.

“This decision was made thoughtfully — with a way to honor Grandma Savina and a way to find peace, and bring harmony to the family, and for me, the greatest honor is seeing Grandma Savina at the forefront of this new chapter. We, as a family, are excited to help carry forward her spirit, her recipes, and the family traditions that have defined La Loma for more than 50 years,” Jo Brinkerhoff, Mark’s wife, told What Now Denver.

The family is also expanding their hospitality footprint with a venue in Castle Rock that is opening later this month. A 2,644-square-foot restaurant called The Brinkerhoff and accompanying event venue Bar Hummingbird, which we covered last year, is in its final stages of development.
