This summer, Zaidy’s Deli & Bakery is adding more space to include a full market and bakery. The Jewish restaurant is currently in the process of finalizing permits for a unit next door to its current space at 600 S. Holly St. in Denver.

Zaidy’s, which first opened in 1985, made the move to Holly St. from Cherry Creek in August of 2021. “We moved up to the new spot where we had room to grow and more parking,” said partner and manager Joel Appel. The restaurant has indoor dining, as well as an outdoor patio.

Appel said the plan is to open one wall between the two spaces to add space for baking and food preparation. “We have to select, order, and install all of our equipment to be a full, proper Jewish bakery,” Appel told What Now Denver. Mixers, preparation tables, and dough formers are just a few additions.

“We need the capacity,” Appel said. “We’d like you to come in and shop for some of your meats, your turkey, your corned beef, pastrami. Grab a loaf of bread. Pick up some brisket for the weekend.”

Some favorite menu items and top sellers include the deli classics such as the Classic Reuben, egg dishes and omelets, and lox and bagels. “We bake our bagels in-house. We smoke our fish in-house.”

The bakery will offer scratch-made baked bagels, buns, homemade breads, and pastries made fresh each day. The expansion will provide more space to smoke salmon and roast meats, as well as grow catering and delivery services.

The expansion next door to its current location is expected to be complete in the summer of 2022. “We’re a place the community comes to meet,” Appel said. “It’s a place as much as it is the delicious food.”
