The Brew Hut announced that it will shut down by the end of February, ending a long chapter in Aurora’s history. The store is known for its early influence on the local brewing community.

Birthplace of Dry Dock Brewing Announces Closure

Located at 15120 East Hampden Avenue in Aurora, The Brew Hut was first opened in 1995. The business was taken over by Dry Dock co-founder Kevin DeLange in 2002. He later opened it next to The Brew Hut as a tasting room brewery. The brewing store announced the closure on January 15 in a social media post.

“After more than 30 years of serving the homebrewing community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce The Brew Hut will be closing its doors at the end of February,” the post said. The store noted that it began as a small homebrew supply shop and expanded into a significant business.

“The Brew Hut was where our story began. What started as a small homebrew supply shop grew into something much bigger, eventually leading us to open Dry Dock Brewing right next door. Together, these two businesses helped foster a community that shaped not only our own journey, but the paths of countless homebrewers, brewers, and breweries across the region,” the post said.

The brewery store expressed its gratitude to everyone who crossed its path. “We are incredibly grateful for all the people who have personally and professionally touched our lives and look forward to our next beer together,” the post said.

The Brew Hut Begins Inventory Liquidation

The Brew Hut announced that it had started liquidating all remaining inventory and equipment on Friday, January 16. The store urged customers to stock up on ingredients and supplies ahead of the closure.

“Beginning on Friday, January 16, we will be liquidating all remaining inventory and equipment. We invite you to stop by and stock up on ingredients, supplies, and equipment,” the post said. Certain items will be sold at a discount while supplies last.

“Select items will be discounted up to 50% off, while supplies last. Thank you for being part of our journey, and for helping turn a little homebrew shop into something far greater than we ever imagined,” the post concluded.

The post was met with heartfelt messages from its loyal customers, upset over the announcement. One follower, Jason Wigmore, said, “Bought my first setup and recipe there years ago!!! I lived in Meadowwood for long enough to become a Dry Dock regular. Cheers to new endeavors.”

As the store prepares to shut its doors, longtime customers and local brewers continue to reflect on the role it played in shaping the region’s homebrewing culture.
