Tattered Cover Book Store is celebrating its 50th anniversary by expanding its presence in Colorado.

The new downtown Colorado Springs location will be the first outside the Denver Metro area for Tattered Cover.

The 8,000-square-foot retail destination is slated to open in 2022 at 112 North Tejon Street. It will feature an extensive selection of books, a café, kids zone, and more.

Since its purchase in December 2020 by Bended Page LLC, owned by Kwame Spearman, David Back, and Alan Frosh, Tattered Cover has expanded across the Denver Metro area.

This year, locations have popped up at McGregor Square in Denver’s Lower Downtown and at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. A Westminster store set to open this fall will be the first Tattered Cover to feature a wine bar. According to its website, Tattered Cover opened its first store in Cherry Creek North in 1971.

Tattered Cover’s Colorado Springs bookstore will be located in a downtown historic building. “We are setting up shop in a beautiful building that was erected in the 1880s and has been preserved over the years, but recently brought back to life. This is exactly what we’re trying to do for our brand,” Tattered Cover CEO Kwame Spearman said.

“The downtown area is undergoing a renaissance, and we are thrilled to be a part of that next chapter,” Spearman continued.
