Bo’s Bagels, a New York City-based bagel shop, is getting ready to open its first location in Michigan with a new site coming to Ann Arbor at 1116 S. University Ave.
The company’s third location is set to open below the Vic Village South apartment complex, according to Crain’s Detroit. Co-owners and University of Michigan alumni Ashley Dikos and Andrew Martinez expect to open this location in mid-March but, more importantly, will use the site to test new markets. The 2,200-square-foot space is being built with Wolverine Building Group and is expected to have about 20 bar-style seats.
If all goes well with this location, the owners hope to further expansion efforts for Bo’s Bagels, which is also looking at New Jersey and Philadelphia for future locations. When the new Ann Arbor location opens, customers can expect a variety of delicious bagels for no more than $2.20, plus plenty of cream cheese options and breakfast sandwiches. While the couple may add a few regionalized sandwiches to the Ann Arbor site, the menu will be the same as the New York locations in Harlem and Washington Heights.
This is a massive accomplishment for Dikos and Martinez; the latter had never been to Michigan before meeting the former. While the two started the concept in New York City, they believe it is a “natural progression” to bring Bo’s Bagels to Michigan, according to Crains. Hopefully, this is just the beginning for the company, and more locations of Bo’s Bagels will start to pop up elsewhere in the Midwest. Bo’s Bagels has no relation to Huntington Beach’s Bo’s Bagels & Coffee.
