A bar with themes of paradise is closing its doors, but the owners have a new project on the way.

Mutiny Bar at 4654 Vernor Highway is closing this month, from a recent announcement. The bar has been serving the Central Southwest area for around nine years. Along with the closure, the owners John and Dave Kwiatkowski are planning a new unnamed concept at the space in the coming weeks.

On Feb. 16, the owners took to social media to announce the official closure, expressing their gratitude to loyal customers. Details on the new concept have not yet been revealed.

“For nine incredible years, you’ve filled out space with laughter, music, celebration and community. We are endlessly grateful for every visit, every toast and every memory made under our roof,” said the recent post.

The Southeast Pacific-themed bar has many tropical drinks to choose from, including their Painkiller with Babadoos rums, coconut cream, orange and pineapple. Bowls, punches and beers are also popular pours. Mutiny sells merchandise along with the drinks that is available on their website.

From Detroit Free Press, the space is set to go through a “refreshing and rebranding” in the near future. Employees will also be moved to other properties owned by the Kwiatkowskis. When What Now Detroit reached out to the owners, they were not available for comment.

Mutiny Bar sits at the corner of Vernor Highway and Lansing Street, neighboring Chicago’s Pizza. The area of this neighborhood just west of downtown Detroit is home to many bars and restaurants including Antojitos El Catracho, China House and El Parian. Many Mexican businesses are in the area as this is close to Mexicantown.

As the new concept takes shape, the owners will be sharing more information on their social media pages.
