40-Year-Old Houston Favorite Taqueria to Close Its Doors Permanently

Taqueria Cancun, a longtime Houston favorite, is preparing to permanently close. The Mexican restaurant is known for its late-night service and lively atmosphere.

The restaurant team announced the closure on social media, and the last meal will be served on March 29. The Taqueria Cancun family also extended a note of appreciation and gratitude to the community for its support over the years.

Gessner Road’s Popular Taqueria Cancun to Close After 40 Years

Situated at 2227 Gessner Rd in Houston, Taqueria Cancun is a favorite spot for the local community. The restaurant serves authentic Mexican food with bold flavors.

The restaurant serves dishes like fajitas, burritos, and tacos, and also offers drive-thru service. Popular menu items include cheese enchiladas, fajita beef enchiladas, and carne asada tacos.

After serving the community for four decades, Taqueria Cancun has announced it will close its doors on March 29, 2026.

The team behind the restaurant stated, “As we prepare to close this chapter, our hearts are full of gratitude for the love and support you have shown us throughout the years.”

The owners also added that the memories made inside the restaurant—from everyday meals to special celebrations—will always hold a special place for them.

Emotional Response on Social Media

After the closure was announced on social media, several fans and members of the local community expressed their grief. One fan shared a cherished memory and wrote, “This was my dad’s and my favorite spot, omg. The servers literally watched me grow up.”

Another loyal customer said, “Since 14 years ago, when I came as a teacher at Edgewood Elementary, I have been visiting you, and you have always shown the same affection and quality. Thanks for the memories and great food!”

The team encouraged customers to stop by during the restaurant’s final weeks.

Taqueria Cancun will remain open through the last week of March, giving the community a few more weeks to visit the restaurant before it officially closes. The restaurant will be remembered for its casual atmosphere and late-night dining.
