Baltimore-based Atlas Restaurant Group is expanding its Houston presence with two new additions to the group: The Sylvie and Kannon.

Both spots will occupy 845 Texas Ave. in the downtown Texas Tower, according to an Instagram post.

Atlas Restaurant Group was founded by brothers Alex and Eric Smith in 2010 with a deli in Baltimore’s Harbor East. Since then, it has grown to 50 restaurants, bars and entertainment concepts across Maryland, Florida, Texas and Pennsylvania.

“We opened our first concept in Houston in 2019 and have loved getting to know the River Oaks and Montrose communities. We’re eager to expand into Downtown Houston with The Sylvie and Kannon, and are thrilled to partner with Texas Tower.” Alex Smith said in a statement.

The Sylvie, formerly part of Berg Hospitality Group, is an upscale French-European bistro serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast highlights include classic sandwiches on a croissant, bagels with schmears, parfaits, smoothies and a coffee bar. Lunch and dinner feature sharables, soups, salads, sandwiches such as the caprese panini, BLT and roasted turkey, as well as pizzas including margherita, pepperoni and fennel sausage.

Guests can also enjoy a curated cocktail program and a selection of beer and wine.

Derived from the French form of Sylvia, the name comes from the Latin word for forest and reflects the space’s lighting and architecture, featuring a floor-to-ceiling, tree-like sculpture at its center.

The Sylvie is Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Kannon, a Japanese-inspired dining experience, will serve as The Sylvie’s sister property. The restaurant will transport guests to Tokyo, combining exposed wood, brick and stone with modern, contemporary design elements.

The menu, curated by Chef Timur Fazilov, will feature hand rolls, sashimi, nigiri and crudo. Fazilov is no stranger to the group’s portfolio, also leading Azumi, a Japanese concept in Baltimore and Houston.

The fare will be complemented by a curated selection of Japanese sake, inventive cocktails and premium beers.

The team is planning to debut Kannon by late 2026. Visit the website and follow along on Instagram for grand opening updates.
