It appears as though Austin-based Lick Honest Ice Creams is opening the brand’s first Houston storefront. Lick Honest Ice Creams can be found in a number of H-E-B locations across Houston, but currently, the brand only has three storefronts in Austin, three in San Antonio, and one in the works for College Station.
Chad Palmatier and Anthony Sobotik founded Lick Honest Ice Creams in Austin back in 2011 to offer “honest ice creams” to the savvy palates of Austinites, according to the brand’s website. Both Palmatier and Sobotik grew up in rural communities and enjoyed homemade ice cream.
Lick Honest Ice Creams offers a variety of Everyday flavors such as Caramel Salt Lick, Texas Sheet Cake, and Fresh Mint & Chocolate Chunk. “All of the milk and cream used to make our ice creams comes from family owned dairies in Texas and Wisconsin; and everything from the sauces, syrups, cookies, cakes and marshmallows is made by hand in our kitchen,” stated the brand’s website. You can get a scoop in a cup or waffle cone, made from scratch each day.
The shops also feature seasonally-inspired flavors, ice cream sandwiches, and vegan and dairy-free ice creams. Lick Honest Ice Creams is committed to sustainability and uses cups, spoons, and napkins that are compostable. Lick Honest Ice Creams is also dedicated to supporting the community through fundraising, volunteering, and donating to local non-profit organizations through the brand’s Cones for a Cause campaign.
The Houston ice cream shop will be housed in a 600-square-foot space in the ground floor of a shell building at 3737 Cogdell St., Ste. 130 in Houston, according to state licensing information. Lick Honest Ice Creams will be near Hanover Parkview in the mixed-use development, Autry Park, near Buffalo Bayou. The space will get new interior walls, finishes, lighting, plumbing, and HVAC system.
Palmatier did not respond to What Now Houston’s request for information, so there is no official word on when Houston’s Lick Honest Ice Creams might open. According to licensing documents, it could be sometime in early 2023.
