Candente is coming to the Houston Heights. The popular Houston Tex-Mex small-restaurant chain is preparing for its third opening. The plan is to open Candente Heights at 2020 Lawrence Street in 2027, according to the Houston Business Journal.
The only Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston to receive a Michelin Guide Texas recommendation is run by Sambrooks Hospitality. Sambrooks Hospitality is a prominent restaurant group based in H-Town, owned and founded by restaurateur Michael Sambrooks. The group is highly regarded in the Texas culinary scene, celebrated for its live-fire cooking, authentic Tex-Mex, and traditional barbecue.
What Now Houston reached out to Sambrooks about the upcoming Candente opening, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“If you ask someone what Candente means, you won’t get the same answer twice,” the Candente website reads.
“Some say ‘burning,’ others’ a hot topic,’ or more literally ‘incandescent.” Now that you’re here, Candente means queso topped with chopped brisket, sea salt-rimmed margaritas, and the best Tex-Mex this side of Montrose. Candente has many meanings, but one singular focus: Tex-Mex done right.”
Known for its mesquite-wood fire-grilled fajitas, brisket enchiladas, and craft cocktails, Candente quickly gained in popularity after Sambooks opened the first location in 2019. The restaurant has grown into a highly acclaimed local institution. Sambrooks opened a second Candente restaurant in Bellaire late last year.
Now, embarking on a third opening, Candente is planned for the Houston Heights neighborhood. The address belongs to an independent commercial and warehouse property located near the intersection of Lawrence Street and W 21st Street, close to the Shepherd Drive and 20th Street corridor.
We suspect there may be a grand opening. So keep your ears perked and your eyes open on the latest about this exciting new addition to the Sambrooks Hospitality portfolio.
Candente is anticipated to open in The Heights at 2020 Lawrence Street in 2027.
