A Houston winery that opened in 2019 will undergo a few renovations in coming months. Decant Urban Winery is currently housed in a 10,000-square-foot warehouse that previously served an auto body shop at 948 Wakefield Dr. “We’ve been slowly converting over the last five years and upgrading. Obviously, the Pandemic slowed that down a bit,” said Kristina Tucker, co-owner and winemaker at Decant Urban Winery.

Now, they are moving forward to renovate more of the space. “The big renovation that we’re doing is to build a larger, air-conditioned tasting room space for the public. Basically, we’re making it four times bigger than it currently is,” Tucker told What Now Houston.

Other renovations include a private party room, the addition of a kitchen, and additional bathrooms. The production space will also get an upgrade to increase winemaking efficiency.

The addition of the kitchen will allow Decant Urban Winery to provide food including seasonal lite bites, charcuterie, pizzas, and desserts. Once renovations are complete, Tucker plans to extend the hours of service and hold more events such as movie nights, live music, and bingo. “This will give us more of a complete space, so we are able to do that.”

Decant Urban Winery works with local growers and produces everything in-house. “All the crushing, pressing, fermenting, barreling, bottling is done here.” Some of Tucker’s favorites are the pinot noir and the cabernet. “Both of those just won at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this year,” Tucker said. Tucker also enjoys the Decant Riesling and chardonnay.

They are currently waiting on permitting, but Tucker hopes the renovations will be complete by this fall. Tucker said there might be about a two-to-three-week period when the tasting room will close during renovations. “During that time, we might still operate as a bottle shop to-go if possible.”
