Los Cucos Mexican Cafe is gearing up for a major addition to the City Place development in Spring. The Cabrera family, who founded and still operate the brand, will open a new location at 1401 Lake Plaza Dr. in the heart of the community’s urban core. The space will span more than 7,600 square feet on the ground floor of a LEED Silver-certified building and will sit just steps from the lakefront promenade and City Place Plaza.

Represented by Alan Chodrow of Chodrow Realty Advisors, with Lindsey McKean of SHOP Companies on the landlord side, the lease places Los Cucos in a prime spot among some of the area’s most active retail and dining spaces. The landlord is a joint venture made up of CDC Houston, Patrinely, and Affinius Capital.

The City Place outpost is designed as a more elevated take on the Los Cucos experience, modeled after the successful Montgomery location that opened in 2023. Guests can expect upgraded interiors, a large wraparound patio, and a vibrant, full-service bar with margaritas, craft cocktails, and happy hour specials aimed at drawing evening and weekend crowds. “Our vision for this location goes beyond being just another dining option—it’s about bringing energy and atmosphere to the heart of City Place, especially in the evenings and on weekends,” said Owner Sergio Cabrera Jr.

Menu favorites will remain central to the new restaurant. Sizzling fajitas, enchiladas verdes, parrilladas, and the chain’s signature creamy green sauce will be offered alongside a rotating lineup of Texas craft beers and tequila-forward cocktails. Over the years, Los Cucos has grown from a single location in Houston to more than 20 restaurants across Texas, while also expanding into other brands like Vida Mariscos, Lago Mariscos, and Gauchos Do Sul.

City Place has quickly become a hub for business, leisure, and living, with employers such as ExxonMobil, HP Inc., and Hewlett Packard Enterprise nearby. The area also boasts thousands of multifamily residences and three hotels within walking distance. Los Cucos will join dining neighbors like Common Bond Bistro & Bakery, Sushi Rebel, Island Grill, and Star Cinema Grill, further strengthening the community’s food and entertainment options.
