Changes in Houston’s Restaurant Landscape in February 2026

IBUN Bakery’s closure reflects broader shifts in Houston’s restaurant scene. Although new restaurants and cafes are still being opened, industry headwinds are affecting many.

Rising operating costs, shifting consumer habits, and lease challenges have driven several notable restaurant closures in Houston this February.

Becks Prime, a renowned burger joint, closed its Wilcrest location on Feb. 8. The 35-year-old restaurant left a significant mark on the community.

Houston bid farewell to a beloved cocktail bar, Wooster’s Garden, on Feb. 12. Though no reason for closure was cited, it was anticipated that the concept might shift to another location.

Sunrise Taquitos made another remarkable closure announcement. This family-owned Tex-Mex restaurant has decided to end its nearly two-decade run on Memorial Drive.

Houston’s restaurant scene remains lively, but independent businesses face growing pressures in a competitive market.
As IBUN is about to close, its exit highlights the changing nature of the local food scene, where community staples may soon become a thing of the past.

IBUN Bakery has been a local favorite for fresh, handmade breads, pastries, and desserts inspired by Asian flavors. The bakery’s offerings include soft milk breads, fruit-filled buns, sweet and savory pastries, celebration cakes, and traditional favorites that blend familiar flavors with creative twists.

IBUN became a local favorite for everyday breads, custom cakes, and a daily stop for neighborhood customers.
