Spanish Village has been a Houston staple since the 50s. In 2023, the eatery closed, but it was announced that the project would be revived and its legacy would live on in a new space. Owner Steven Rogers has revealed that Spanish Village will make a return, or at least a concept like it, in a new mixed-use development slated to open in the Third Ward at 4720 Almeda Road.

“It’s not just Spanish Village, it’s a three-story development,” Spanish Village owner Steven Rogers said in a phone interview with What Now Houston

“The space is designed for Spanish Village or any restaurant on the second floor.”

The longtime Tex-Mex restaurant was anticipated to sit on the second floor of the new mixed-use project developed by Rogers’ Wake Up LLC, according to the Houston Business Journal. However, as Rogers awaits funding to begin construction on the new space, whether the Spanish Village concept will reopen in the space remains uncertain.

“We have a full set of plans that’s already been stamped by the city, that’s ready to go, we’re just waiting on the funding to get started, to break ground,” Rogers said.

“I’m not sure how we’re going to move on Spanish Village.”

Spanish Village was opened by the Medina Family in 1953 before Rogers bought it in 2021, carrying the eatery to its finish line of serving the community for 70 years.

“As discovered by Houston Metropolitan, Texas Monthly, Ultra, and Houston City Magazines, this is where you will find the best margaritas in town.  They may be the only really good restaurant margaritas in Houston,” the Spanish Village restaurant website reads.

“Standard Mexican combo plates are competently prepared and served up by probably the friendliest corps of waiters in Houston in a funky, enclosed patio, replete with year-round Christmas lights.”

Rogers shared that he plans to feature retail space on the first floor of the new mixed-use development set to come to the Third Ward. The second floor will be where the restaurant operates, and the third floor is a rooftop overlooking the city and will serve as an event space.

Alameda Village is what the mixed-use development will be called.

Spanish Village, or a similar concept, is anticipated to open at Alameda Village in the Third Ward at 4720 Almeda Road by 2027.
