According to recent public records, an exciting new restaurant concept is headed to Jacksonville.
Saleya, the latest by Scott and Gabrielle Alters of Rue Saint-Marc, will be coming to 2006 San Marco Blvd. The pair will be teaming up with partners Matthew and David Medure for this latest venture.
“The full name of the restaurant will be Saleya Riviera Cafe,” Scott Alters tells What Now in an exclusive interview. “Saleya refers to the Cours Saleya, the big open air fruit and vegetable market in Nice, France.”
“My wife and I were in the French Riviera vacationing four years ago,” Alters begins, setting the history for the establishment. “We loved the city of Nice and the great Mediterranean ambiance of it, you know, sitting out on the terrace of a cafe, watching the world go by. So we thought this would be the perfect idea for a restaurant.”
Alters specifies that the culinary styles of the restaurant will be primarily influenced by the Northern coast of Italy (think Genoa) and France’s Provençal region.
“We will have fresh-baked bread, great sandwiches, salads, soups, and light appetizers for lunch.”
“We will also offer Provençal-style shareable plates; we hope that this is a casual spot for the neighborhood to get together,” Alters states, adding that they will make considerable efforts to support local and regional agriculture; dishes will change seasonally. The establishment’s drinks program, namely the wine selection, will be run by Gabrielle.
So what is the timeline for this exciting new establishment?
“We are two-thirds of the way through construction,” he states. “We have a couple of hurdles to get over before we can get an exact date, but we can reasonably expect late summer.”
