According to recent reporting, a local duo will soon take on their newest venture.

Restaurateurs Nathan Stuart and Margo Klar of the Intracoastal Fisheries Hospitality Group are planning to develop a second Grouper Shack in Jacksonville Beach in the space formerly occupied by the Bearded Pig at 1700 3rd St. S.

Readers may be familiar with the couple’s Fish House restaurants, but Grouper Shack will take on a different market as it intends to be “a more casual restaurant to provide more inexpensive access to fresh seafood.”

Stuart told the JBJ that every single item on the grouper shack menu is $20 or less.

“It’s affordable so everybody can come in a super nice environment where they can order fresh catch,” said Stuart.

Among the offerings will be flounder, grouper, snapper and other fresh baskets served fried, grilled or blackened. Stuart and Klar say they are able to provide this low-cost seafood for two reasons: “lower overhead costs and long-time connections to local fishermen.”

“We fish. We are a fishing family,” Stuart said. “We travel abroad and all over the United States fishing. Everybody in Northeast Florida knows us to be fishermen and trusts us to deliver fresh seafood. We know what’s good, and we know what’s fresh.”

So when will the establishment open?

“Because Grouper Shack Jax Beach will be moving into a former eatery will almost new equipment and because Stuart and Klar will lean on Hugo Interiors to bring to life the vision from the Micami Design Group (who design and build out all the group’s restaurants), Stuart hopes to only require 120 days of renovation to accomplish a Dec. 1 opening date,” the report states.
