L.A.’s bacon-wrapped hot dog brand Dirt Dog has been setting up around Las Vegas since 2016. A recent building permit application has revealed that Dirt Dog has its sights set on 5105 E Sahara Ave.
Dirt Dog has risen to fame with the help of their visually striking menu items. Ranging from hot-cheeto-dusted bacon dogs to elote-topped franks, Dirt Dog does not hold back on bold flavors.
While the restaurant’s name might be off-putting to some, it comes with a sweet backstory. It originates from owner Timothy Cam’s experience in Downtown L.A., when he and his brother Simon spent a summer eating bacon-wrapped hot dogs from a sidewalk vendor.
“My mom would keep telling us to stop eating dirt,” Cam wrote on the company website. “Simon found it amusing and started calling them Dirt Dogs.”
As Cam began making bacon-wrapped hot dogs himself, the name stuck. After-dinner treats include churros, horchata ice cream and deep-fried twinkies. Dirt Dog’s existing locations can be found on the Strip and Rainbow Blvd.
Their recent permit application estimates that building out the new property near Winterwood Park will cost $280,000 in renovations.
Owner Timothy Cam was not immediately available for comment before publication. Dirt Dog has yet to make an official announcement or set an opening date.
