Founded by Melvin Liufau in 1996, Matiki Island BBQ has since expanded beyond its original home in Anaheim to include three locations in California and another in Las Vegas. The brand is now preparing to expand with a second Las Vegas location at the intersection of South Jones Boulevard and West Russell Road.

“We’ve really been welcomed in Vegas, and we’re very happy with how people have embraced us,” Riandra Doda, who oversees Matiki’s Las Vegas locations, told What Now on Wednesday.

Matiki Island BBQ’s menu features Plates, served with white rice and Potato-Mac Salad or Tossed Green Salad, that include Kalbi Short Rib, Teriyaki Chicken, and Sam’s Plate (“Our most popular dish! Fall-off-the-bone grilled teriyaki BBQ beef rib charred to perfection!”). Bowls & Boxes comes in varieties like Beef, Chicken, Veggie, and combinations like Chicken & Veggie.

Doda said Matiki’s Las Vegas locations will soon also be serving up some new items, including Kalua Pork & Cabbage, along with Dole Soft Serve, now served in both pints and floats. Construction plans for the new location have not been finalized, but it is expected to seat 25-35 people, with a projected opening sometime this summer.

“We definitely hope to keep growing in Vegas,” Doda said.
