A brand-new destination combining an ice cream shop, a speakeasy, and a bit-of-everything tapas menu is opening this summer in the Arts District. Craft Creamery will open at 1 E Charleston Boulevard, and co-owner Tony Martinez told What Now on Friday that it’s working toward an opening this July.

“At the front we’re going to have ice cream and aguas frescas, which can also be spiked, along with boozy milkshakes,” Martinez said. “Then you’ll go through to the cooler you’ll come into a darkly lit, quaint speakeasy.”

The speakeasy space will seat about 55 guests and will offer a selection of small shareables, including both traditional tapas and some adventurous choices. Many of the menu details are still under wraps, Martinez said, but “we’re going to have fun with a little bit of everything.”

Martinez is part of the team behind Servehzah Bottle Shop and Tap Room. The idea for the Craft Creamery came from co-ower Emma Villarreal, a craft bartender at Servehzah who Martinez says developed the idea for an ice-cream-meets-speakeasy concept during the pandemic years.

“We thought, why not mix a bit of all of our passions?” said Martinez. “Be ready to experience high-end craft cocktails with small shareable plates that match that quality.”
