Outdoor dining, upscale gaming and comedy nights are on their way to New Orleans Square. While planning is still underway, owners Ron and Judy McMenemy intend to open Square Bar at 900 E Karen Ave. this coming summer.
They have partnered up with Paul Kotler, owner of Fourth Street Bar in Reno, to develop the concept. In line with the family business model, Ron and Judy’s son Ian McMenemy is also a stake-holder. What Now Las Vegas spoke with Chelsey Kelly, daughter of the New Orleans Square owners and a partner in the new bar.
“This bar is really meant to help tie in the community that we’ve already built in New Orleans Square,” Kelly said.
The menu will feature mostly shareable dishes and snacks. They have several event ideas in the works, including comedy nights, live music and dueling pianos performances. The atmosphere, Kelly explained, will be friendly and community-oriented, and they plan to decorate the venue with art made by local tenants.
New Orleans Square is nestled in the Historic Commercial Center District. The Commercial Center has seen a lot over the years — from Pentecostal churches, to gay bars, to one of the best Thai restaurants in the country, it’s safe to say that this shopping center is one of a kind.
Ron McMenemy said Friday that they intend to begin construction of Square Bar by the end of next month.
