The Sand Dollar Lounge on Spring Mountain Rd has a storied past. Opened in 1976 as the Sand Dollar Blues Bar, its stage was graced by legendary musicians like B.B. King and Muddy Waters. It closed in 2007, reopened in 2009, and, in 2015, was acquired by current owners Nathan Grates and Anthony Jamison.

Word got out last July that a second location would open on Main Street at the Plaza Hotel and Casino, with an expected opening last fall. Like so many projected opening dates during the years of the COVID-19 pandemic, it proved a little too optimistic.

In January, however, a permit was issued by Clark County for construction at the Plaza: adding a bar, remodeling the back of house, lowering the stage, revising and replacing light fixtures, and other work. No official opening date has been announced, but The Sand Dollar Downtown is expected to open in the first half of 2022, in the nearly 5,000 space where it will serve the Plaza’s Pop Up Pizzas and craft cocktails, featuring live music on Thursday and Saturday evenings.

What Now Las Vegas reached out to Grates on Friday but unable to reach him for comment on the revised opening.
